3 CHEERS FOR THE TEAM

1a)Why is cheerleading an expensive sport?

  • Tailored costumes, new each competition seasons: $100 to $400 each. Price depends on material and amount of embroidery. Some teams hire tailors from Thailand.

  • Gymnastics classes and workshops: $50 per session, usually weekly for an hour-and a half. Some coaches make it compulsory for the whole squad to attend.

  • Tights: $2 to $25. These are bought from fashion outlets like This Fashion or even imported from Thailand.

  • Hair products: About $50 for a team per competition. Hair accessories not included.

  • Medical insurance: $30 to $100 per person. Mostly covered by schools and organisations.

  • Nutritional supplements and vitamins: $50 to $130 per bottle.

  • Training mats: $50 a piece. Standard number of mats used for competition is 144 pieces.

  • Kaepa brand gymnastics shoes, imported from the United States and Taiwan: $90 to $150 a pair.

  • Pom-poms, the "really nice bushy ones", imported from Taiwan: $50 to $70 a pair.

b)What makes cheerleading such a tough sport?

Cheerleading needs to put in hours of practice several times a week; about two to five times a week, up to five hours each time. In order to perfect each high flip, lift and tumbling stunt that is part of the rountine, blood, sweat and tears is unavoidable. And cheerleading needs lots of teamwork too.

2)What is your opinion of cheerleaders? If given a chance, would you join cheerleading? Why/why not?

Yes? i think i would because i think is rather cool to be one of them? And actually i like the way how they dance?
